Could Vauxhall takeover put UK jobs at risk?

Thousands of jobs in the UK are under threat over the recent collapse of American car manufacturing giant General Motors (GM). The company were forced to finally file for bankruptcy protection in the US, leaving the future of all its workers uncertain. The European branch of GM, which includes Vauxhall in the UK as well as the German brand Opel, has been bought out by Canadian car parts company Magna International.  But although this means that both the British and German brands will continue production, a fall in demand for car sales and car leasing deals could mean that Magna will be making significant job cuts.

The worry for Vauxhall is that Magna is a relatively unknown company in the UK, with ties to Russian oligarch Oleg Deripaska’s vans company and the Russian bank Sberbank. The Russian involvement has raised worries about production at Vauxhall’s Luton plant, a joint venture with Renault where Trafic and Vivara vans are made, could be moved to Russia, leaving the Luton’s 1,400 workers without jobs. The German government also had a part to play in ensuring that the takeover was a success, causing worries that the Opel factories and workers may be protected as a priority and that any cutbacks would have to be made in the UK. Of course nothing has been officially confirmed to date as Magna are still assessing the situation before making any decisions and have made it clear that they will do everything in their power to protect as many jobs as possible in all areas.

For Vauxhall’s 5,500 UK workers, all they can do is to remain hopeful that the company will recover quickly after the takeover by Magna, who obtained the company over other potential buyers including Italian car manufacturer Fiat. Car leasing and car sales will need to improve soon for the decision to keep factories open to be viable. In the meantime for buyers interested in purchasing a car from Vauxhall, car leasing could be a better option as it enables you to choose from a wider range of vehicles, and is less likely to leave you in a difficult position if the company suffers any further disaster in the future.

My Used Audi Secret

Over the past few years I have seen very favourable reviews of Audi cars on programmes like Top Gear. I decided that I wanted to invest in one, but due to the depreciation of new cars at the moment, I chose to buy a Used Audi from my local Sytner Dealership. I was presented with a superb choice of cars and took my time to pick the perfect one. After a few test drives and much deliberation I decided to drive away with a Used Audi TT. The Audi TT is a perfect car for those who like the sportiness of roadsters, but enjoy the practicalities of saloon cars. The Used Audi TT supplies you with all the motoring pleasure you could wish for.

The very first time I drove my Used Audi TT I knew it was the perfect car for me. The smoothness of the drive was matched by the urgency of the powerful engine. I felt safe; cocooned within the tough body that has passed all of Audi’s rigorous safety tests. I also felt as though I was driving a car of epic proportions. The interior of the Used Audi TT has been designed to a very high specification and makes the driver or passenger feel as though they are inside a considerably more expensive car. I thoroughly enjoy every solitary driving experience I have in my Used Audi TT.

I still cannot believe I found this car for such a reasonable price. With only 11,000 on the clock, my Used Audi TT will guarantee me years of driving pleasure and gives me the feel of driving a luxury car even though I paid a far from luxurious price for it. I would recommend Sytner Used Audi for anyone looking for a cheap Used Audi TT or any other Used Audi model.

Buy Cars Online Safely

So many people are tempted today by the overwhelming internet resources, that they will even place a bid in an online car auction, minutes before it ends, without having any idea what they are buying or if they really have to go ahead with the purchase. When you are bidding in an online auction, it doesn’t mean that you should no stick to your bids just because they are digital. When you join an auction site, you will click and AGREE button below the legal agreement that you are required to accept before joining it. This agreement that is too often regarded as another quick mouse click is in fact a legal contract that specified all laws you might be violating in case you don’t go ahead with the purchase. This means that it’s a good idea to actually read these agreements before signing them, even if you are doing this only virtually.

The main focus points in online car auctions are:

- The virtual presentation, witch mean you will be given a picture of the car, or ten pictures, but that’s about it. It’s obvious that besides the pictures you’ll get a carefully written description and maybe even phone numbers or addresses. If you are interested in a Chrysler lebaron for example, then you should search official technical details like horse power and engine torque, then compare the date to the ones offered by the seller. If you live near the auction issuer, it’s no problem because you can personally visit the car. But if the car is located very far away, then things are not that simple anymore. And, unfortunately, these are the cars that can make great buys. This means that in these case, a phone call with carefully chosen questions should placed, and a long and detailed discussions with the owner held.

- Another problem are the random bids placed by some people that are not paying too much attention. Don’t try to lie now, everyone has done it and so did you. People always think that another interested buyer will place a higher bid. That is a misconception, because every bid can be the winning one, and bidding equals buying in online car auctions.

- Some cars are not carefully described. If a car is lacking details and is also very cheap or when you are the first bidder, it should be regarded as a potential risk. The good news is that you can track the car with the help of specialized services that will tell you everything there is to know, for a fee.

- Additional bidding meant only to grow prices. We all felt as if we are paranoid when a certain “buyer” was always breathing down our necks. It’s best not to continue bidding in these case because the odd bids are placed by the buyers themselves or their friends, simply trying to make you place a bigger bid.

- Car location and transportation. Buying a car that is located too far away from you residence can prove to be a bad idea in some cases, because of transportation costs that add up.

The German car brands still keep to grow, though the automotive world in general is in recess. BMW is doing well in other countries than Germany too. In the first quarter of 2009, BMW Group continued to register growth in the Chinese Mainland market with a total of 16,580 BMW and MINI cars delivered  to the customers, representing 13.over the same periode last year eight percent growth.yr.: 14,574 units).  Automotive expectations in the east are good, and Chinese people still are buying cars. None the less, only 10% of the Chinese public is driving or owning a car. One could predict the environmental issues if all Chinese own one or two cars. Luckily the Chinese government is trying to get people to buy only clean cars and reward it with half the taxes as would be payed normally.

Sales of the BMW brand automobiles in the Chinese Mainland increased by 14.4% to 15,850 units, which includes 8,402 units BMW 3 Series and 5 Series cars produced locally in China. Sales of MINI cars rose by 1% in the Chinese Mainland to 730 units in the first quarter of 2009 (prev.yr.: 723 units).

In the whole Region China markets combining Hong Kong, Taiwan and Macau, the BMW Group delivered a total of 18,244 BMW and MINI brand automobiles in the first quarter, a year-on-year increase of 5.4% (prev.yr.:

17,317).

“Considering the current global difficult times, the Chinese auto market continues to be very resilient and recently showed signs of recovering the growth path. We achieved again double-digit growth for BMW and MINI vehicles sales for the first quarter, and relatively strong growth of 20.Four percent in the third month. This generation will be one of the strong contributors to our sales throughout 2009 in China” said Dr. Christoph Stark, President and CEO of BMW Group Region China.

Tips on Keeping Your Car AC Cool

When the weather is hot, most drivers roll up their windows and turn their vehicle’s air conditioner on. The cool air flows through the vents and the temperature inside the car’s interior drops. While the driver and his passengers may feel comfortable, his car may be on the verge of overheating.

One of the major causes of all problems to your car's engine is excessive temperature. Too much of it will cause it to overheat which can lead to expensive damage. Fortunately, your car has a cooling system; its job is to keep the temperature of your engine within an acceptable range. As with most car engine parts, the part the AC System can stop working.

Below, I'll describe some of the parts within your car's cooling assembly that undergo constant stress. I’ll explain what you should check on a regular basis, and how to prevent your vehicle from overheating and leaving you stranded.

Parts Under Stress

A number of belts and hoses comprise the cooling assembly. The belts deliver power to your alternator, water pump, and A/C compressor. If one of those belts breaks, fails, or somehow becomes loose, it will not be able to trigger the part to which it sends power. That can potentially cause your vehicle to overheat.

The hoses funnel coolant to your radiator. That coolant is critical to managing the heat which surrounds your engine. Without it, the temperature would increase to the point of overheating. If any of those hoses crack, coolant would escape before reaching the radiator. Because of this, the ability to absorb the temperature is gone.

When you drive during the summer, the temperature under the hood can approach 300 degrees Fahrenheit. That intense heat can cause the belts and hoses of your cooling system to break or rupture. If you’re driving under stressful circumstances – for example, pulling a heavy load up a steep hill – your engine can easily overheat.

At-Home Or In-Garage Inspection

Visit your dealership’s service center or your local repair garage to have a mechanic look at your car’s belts and hoses. If any of them are worn, have them replaced. If you know what to look for, you can actually inspect the belts and hoses at home. However, if there’s a chance that you might overlook a crack, small fissure, or any signs of extreme wear, ask a mechanic to take a look for you. It may cost a few dollars, but it will protect your car engine.

How To Prevent Overheating

Keep your eyes on your vehicle’s temperature gauge while driving. It can spike without warning, especially on hot days. If you see it rising, turn your A/C off, roll down your windows, and activate the heater. It may sound counterintuitive, but having the heater on will help lower the temperature around the engine. Also, if you’re driving in stressful conditions (up steep hills, etc.), turn your A/C off.

Even with all the auto improvements in design and technology to withstand heat, they can still cause a problem. Fortunately, with a little car maintenance, you can help your car stay cool and preserve the life of your engine.

Strange Car Remote

Controlling a car with an ipod seems like something take out of a fairytale or of a science fiction movie. But a man who is bound to set new standards, Jonathan Over, has just proven that it is possible and it can be done with the help of his newly invented program. He showed the world how he can not only write about stuff in technical publications, but also create strange yet futuristic devices.

His application is an astonishing piece of technology, as he managed to include Dyno functions like speed reading, fuel level reading, temperature, engine throttle and so on with remote control functions like closing or opening doors and starting the car. The software it’s linked to a GSP and can offer full control regardless of the location, as it used Google Maps to localize the vehicle.

If your car has a computer, you will need to connect it to an inside car device, like a laptop, that has a wireless 3G modem witch will allow ipod access. Now, you can access the unique tracking number of the car from anywhere in the world. This means, anywhere at all, since commands will be received by the GPS system from satellite. So you can leave town and then remember you’ve left the truck open. You just push a button the ipod and problem solved. But this tracking and controlling from virtually anywhere is a bit dangerous, if someone manages to hack into the system.

If such a program becomes marketed in the future, some people might want to try it, since it’s interesting to gain such power. In this case it’s important to buy the right ipod car accessories that will allow us to charge and maintain ipod battery levels, so we don’t end up with sophisticated software and no basic hardware.

It’s amazing to understand where things are right now, with all the new inventions and technologies available. No one though that ipod would appear when they did, and now, no one even dreamt of making a remote control for a car out of an ipod. And still, the fact is here and is true, which makes us think about tomorrow’s breakthrough.
