3.) Don’t smoke. Cigarette smoke contains so many poisons and toxins that are completely counterproductive to its functioning. They dehydrate skin, mutate cell, restrict blood supply and block pores. You only have to look at a chronic smoker’s skin to realise this is a given, so stay away from them.

4.) Keep your stress levels to a minimum. Although this is a difficult to action, it is worth considering. We all know that teenagers classically suffer from outbreaks and this is down to higher hormone levels during puberty causing excessive oil production. The same thing happens when you are stressed but with stress hormones instead and this can be avoided by taking a little time out each day to relax.

5.) Keep make-up levels down. Light or high qaulity make-ups are not so bad but when you begin layering or using thick make-ups the skin simply cannot breathe and pores become infected and inflamed. Make sure you remove makeup before you sleep overnight as well. This is because the skin surface does a large amount of self-cleaning over night and this process cannot take place effectively if it is restricted by a thick layer of foundation.

What You Should Know About Preparing Shrimps

It is very easy and fun to prepare a seafood dish and one should remember that seasoning is the most important thing in a seafood dish.

The seasoning is the most vital element in the preparation of seafood. The main seasoning that I use when I prepare dishes like grilled shrimp is called Tony’s. You can find Tony’s seasoning at just about any grocery store. I usually sprinkle the seasoning on the meat of the dish I am preparing before, during and after I prepare it.

For instance, when fixing a special meal of grilled shrimp, I put a dash of seasoning on them after thawing the shrimp. By seasoning the shrimp with spices or lemon juice while it is grilling you can add a little more zest. For an extra kick add limes instead of lemons. Once the shrimp are done, I put them on a plate and lightly season them for added taste.

Some people only season them once or twice, but if you season them three times the flavor stays with the food the whole time you are preparing it and it never leaves the food before you serve it. One exception to this rule is clam chowder which should only be flavored with salt and a pinch of Tony’s. Since it is a soup, clam chowder holds more flavor. As long as you put the seasoning in the water or liquid of the soup or gumbo you are preparing then the flavor will stay more than if you have to remove a food from the water like you do with grilled shrimp.

It is adviseable that crab soup be prepared with little pieces of crab meat as opposed to bigger chunks. Crab soup should retain much of it’s fluidity, unlike clam chowder. Once again, seasoning is important. Add some Tony’s, salt, pepper and a little bit of lemon and you will have your guests asking for more whenever you prepare seafood in your home or restaurant.

I never let our cupboard run empty with good, ol’ maple syrup. It’s an absolute favorite with my kids especially during breakfast. People eat it on things like toast, waffles, pancakes, french toast, or even on pasta. I began to worry at some point because I thought I was probably indulging them with too much sugar (actually, we all have a sweet tooth in the family; I, myself, can’t resist a piece or two of rich, gooey maple candy once in a while). When I looked into it I was shocked to learn that out of everything maple syrup can be one of the best sweets to be given to children that is readily available. A benefit is that it has less calories then a person would think, and has far fewer amounts of sugar than honey does. Since then I started using pure canadian maple syrup to add to things like squash, on fries, or even on “maple and banana sandwiches” in place of peanut butter. My children really like pure maple butter on their waffles and drizzled on their pancakes.An easy way to make maple butter is to blend a pound of normal butter with 1/2 a cup of maple syrup, then just stick it in the fridge and use it as you like.As a special treat for kids (and to make them eat oatmeal cookies) I just take normal (or low fat) oatmeal cookies and glaze them with a maple glaze. To make the glaze, just combine 1 C organic canadian maple sugar, 1/2 cup of brown sugar, a little maple extract, a few teaspoons of unsalted butter, all together on medium until it comes to a slow boil then you can brush it on your hot cookies. Let cool before serving (tip: the cookies taste better the next day).

Here’s something to keep in mind when you go shopping, really look for organic and pure maple syrup instead of picking up cheap flavored and colored synthetic syrup. The former may be pricier but since it isn’t diluted by other ingredients, you get a richer, earthier flavor, which makes it worth the extra penny. Keep in mind a simple rule; the lighter the syrup, the more subtle the flavor will be. Reserve the darker, amber-colored variety for cooking.  Finally, remember that everything should be consumed in moderation and for goodness’ sake, don’t forget to brush those tiny teeth afterwards!
