Weekend City Breaks in Plymouth and Visitor Attractions to Visit
Vacations in the UK appear to be amazingly popular at the moment, probably due to the the current economy and the low value of the pound Sterling. The UK has a large number of top class tourist destinations including London (the capital city of England) and other interesting cities plus a fine selection of seaside resorts such as; Blackpool, Skegness, Southport and Bognor Regis. One city often overlooked is Plymouth in the south of England.
When you first arrive Plymouth appears a little bland and principally modern, but investigating a bit deeper and you will soon find that the city has a rich history and a deep association with the sea. As long ago as the sixteenth century Plymouth has had a busy port. In 1588 Francis Drake embarked from the town’s port to successfully defend the English from the Spanish Armada. Another moment in history occurred in 1620 when the Pilgrim Fathers embarked from the port.
It is possible to have low cost short breaks in Plymouth by booking bed and breakfast in Plymouth rather than booking rooms in a plush hotel. A simple online search will show that you can make a reservation from £29 a night and some establishments offer other meals at a reasonable price, commonly equivalent to, or less costly than local restaurants.
Tourist Attractions In Plymouth
There are a great many places in Plymouth that are well worth visiting. Popular visitor attractions include; Merchant’s House Museum, the National Marine Aquarium, St Andrew’s church and the Mayflower Steps. A boat cruise around the naval base is an excellent way to spend some time but if you discover that you have more time to spare why not take a day trip to places near to Plymouth, such as; Buckland Abbey, Mount Edgcumbe or Saltram House.
Saltram House is a fine Tudor Mansion which is situated two miles from the town, Mount Edgcumbe is another fine example of a Tudor house with landscaped gardens, coastal paths and parklands, and Buckland Abbey, approximately 6 miles away from Plymouth, is a Cistercian abbey which was once owned by Sir Francis Drake and was later converted into a family home.
If you are currently thinking about taking a trip to the city of Plymouth it is crucial that you reserve your lodgings at the earliest moment because, unfortunately Plymouth hotel and guest house accommodation tend to be amazingly busy and are commonly fully booked for months in advance. If your group is large you might find that Plymouth apartment accommodation prove to be less expensive option to bed and breakfast in Plymouth. If you are visiting the UK from abroad then why not consider booking a room for a few days in hotels in London to take in the attractions of the nations capital city too.
Travel England – Bolderwood In The New Forest National Park
A beautiful day out and unmissable for adults and kids alike if you are visiting the Forest is a trip to Bolderwood Deer Sanctuary and the Ornamental Drive. A day can easily slip by in this beautiful woodland area with plenty to do for any member of the family.
In case you didn’t know the New Forest National park was once the hunting grounds of the former kings of England, and some of the ancient traditions are still practiced today by the commoners.
On arrival at Bolderwood, just as you have parked your car there is an open air green at the side of the woody area which is ideal for a picnic lunch or just to let off some steam with a game of ball. Soaking up the sun before you set off in to the woodlands or having a locally produced ice cream from the resident ice cream van in the car park.
Just inside the entrance to Bolderwood there is a marvellous woodland area with some picnic and barbeque facilities. You will also find a Forest Ranger manned information centre here which is great for getting advice and answering questions you might have about the forest. There are also some great examples of some of the foliage etc. that you will find during your visit to Bolderwood.
From the Woodland area of Bolderwood you can choose from a selection of walks. One of the walks is the Bolderwood Deer Watch Trail. Throughout the walk you might spot the odd deer in the forest among the trees if you are quiet but if you miss them then you are sure to see some deer in the nearby sanctuary. Here there is a viewing platform and the deer here are a little more used to human prescence so you are bound to catch a glimpse of some deer grazing.
You can take the Jubilee Walk which will take you through the Bolderwood Arboretum which began in the 1800’s. The arboretum is a marvellous display of many types of trees. Many trees were very sadly lost here during storms in the 1987 and again in 1991. Further trees have been planted now and is an ongoing plan to return this part of the forest back to its original glory.
The Radnor Trail is another walk which will take you through this ancient beautiful forest, during this walk you might spot the odd Deer grazing in the distance hiding amongst the many more variety of tree species. There are many suitably placed benches to take a rest for a while and to admire the beauty of the forest surrounding you.
The New Forest Cycling network which takes you through the many finest parts of the forest and links many of the major villages includes Bolderwood. Cycling through Bolderwood which includes the Ornamental drive is beautiful and can take about 3 and one half hours.
During your visit to Bolderwood you must take the time to drive through Bolderwoods Ornamental Drive. This is at its most beautiful during the summer and its windy narrow road takes you through the tremendous ancient woodland. It forms part of the 100 mile New Forest Cycling network so there are many cyclists along this route and because of its beauty the drive does become quite busy, so please be careful.

Budget Breaks in Lanzarote
Despite the current economic climate and the depreciation of sterling against the euro the small Spanish island of Lanzarote, in the Canaries, expects to welcome well over one million tourists during the course of 2009. With British and Irish holiday makers comprising the largest contingents of visitors.
This is great news for the tourists visiting the island as there are some great deals to be had on Lanzarote villa holidays and Lanzarote apartments.
Last year Lanzarote welcomed just over 1.5 million tourists. But this figure is sure to fall during 2009. As arrivals have already dropped by around 20%, during the first quarter of this year, according to AENA, the Spanish airport authority. But for many in the UK and Eire a domestic break can be just as expensive, if not more so. And still offers no real guarantee of sunshine.
Self catering holidays on islands such as Lanzarote can in fact work out to be very affordable. The cost of a weeks stay in many Lanzarote apartments for example starts at around €170 per week. And this is the price per room, rather than per person. Those looking for a really good accommodation deal should search for apartments in Puerto del Carmen. As Lanzarote´s biggest resort offers the largest range of choice, boasting hundreds of complexes.
Accommodation is available in both the New and Old Towns – both popular holiday locations in their own right. Offering good facilities, such as swimming pools and maid service at highly competitive prices. Puerto del Carmen has also enjoyed a recent revamp, with a new marina nearing completion in the Old Town Harbour area. Whilst the main beachfront strip, the Avenida de las Playas has been partly pedestrians. Making it a for more pleasant place to stroll.
There´s a wide selection of high quality Lanzarote villas available for rent across the island. All offering high standards of accommodation with prices starting from around €400 per week. For a two bedroom villa with private pool. There are more villas in Playa Blanca, the newest destination on the island, than in any other resort. Thanks to the fact that hundreds of overseas investors have snapped up property here in recent years to rent out to their fellow tourists.
Playa Blanca is an atmospheric and well appointed destination. Boasting a delightful seafront promenade that stretches from one end of the resort to the other. Along with some of the best beaches on the island and a fantastic microclimate. Which tends to make this the most reliable choice for those in search of sun. Visitors can even hop on a ferry and visit the neighbouring island of Fuerteventura, just 6km away across the Bocaina Straits.
Visitors to Spain and the Canary Islands will get a warm welcome and have a fantastic holiday regardless of their choice of destination.
The Holiday Spirit
My family only gets together on special occasions, such as Christmas. My grandparents house will usually fill with all my family members, talking and having fun, opening presents, playing games, eating lots of food, while celebrating Christmas. Even though this might sound like fun, trust me, it most certainly is not, or at least for me.
Since most of the men in my family have political careers, they have a boring habit of talking only about this. Since I know absolutely nothing about this subject, I have nothing to do but stare at the ceiling, or talk to my cousins. They’re much younger than me, so I don’t have lot of things to talk to them about, but any activity that keeps me from having to listen to my relatives speaking, is a good one.
After a couple of days, however, I ran out of things to talk to them about, and I started looking for something else to keep me occupied, while Christmas days slowly passed. Only Christmas shows and movies were on TV, and I had enough of them. Fortunately, I remembered a Christmas present I’d received several years ago and I hadn’t really used.
It was a iriver h10 player, and it was a real life saver. Their conversations just faded away, and I was hearing nothing but my music. My parents were really upset with me, and kept constantly reminding me how rude I was, listening to music all of the time, but I was fine with it. Christmas became much more fun, after discovering my rarely-used present.
When I was old enough to move out from my parents house, I did it, but I still kept my player, and whenever Christmas came, I’d listen to it again. It was probably one of the best Christmas presents I’ve ever received.
Dont Bring Your Work on Holiday
Summer time is coming and a vast amount of people are looking to book their holidays, although the credit crunch has hit hard this year people are still finding a way to take a break whether it’s a caravan holiday or a visit to a selection of beach resorts. And so much so as holidays should really be taken at regular occasions to help the body relax. But with the current economic downturn people are even bringin work away with themselves to impress the boss? and assist businesses with not enough staff? Let's take a quick look.
Research by Lexmark has shown that one third of British people are going to be taking their laptops or new smart phones away with them, which leads to people not getting enough rest and relaxation where needed. The worst aspect is that people will become a lot lazier simply because they will be so exhausted. When you go on holiday the time should solely be spent pampering yourself.
But things look even worse because a further 20 percent of people have indicated that they spend a lot of time working from home after hours. All this has been caused by the credit crunch, people just do not want to risk being seen as unreliable in the work place. But in reality your boss could be more likely to sack you if you lounge about the office from tiredness. Also if you become overwhelmingly tired then that will rub off when you speak to clients. So book a trip and take that Barbados holidays that you have always wanted, there is no better time then now.
For great Honeymoons in Barbados

Scottish Vacations And A Number Of Captivating Tourist Attractions to Visit Close To Pitlochry
Vacations in Scotland are incredibly popular at the moment due, possibly, to the strength of the US dollar against the pound making vacations to the U.K. extremely good value, especially if visiting from from the USA. In the article below we introduce three superb places to visit in Pitlochry, the Scottish Hydro Electric Visitor Centre, the Killiecrankie Visitor Centre and Blair Castle.
Scottish Hydro Electric Visitor Centre
A power station is an unusual place for a visitor center, however this is just where you can find the Scottish Hydro Electric Visitor Center. The hydro center is situated inside the resplendent Pitlochry Power Station, and includes interactive displays describing the development of hydro power in Scotland, dating from the 1940′s right up to the present day. The Pitlochry Dam, which was built between nineteen forty seven and nineteen fifty one, offers the interesting chance to watch the renowned salmon ladder through three observation areas. Once inside the visitor center, you will also discover interactive and audio-visual presentations explaining in detail this naturally occurring display. The turbine hall of Pitlochry Hydro-Electric Power Station can also be viewed from inside the Visitor Center.
Blair Castle
Blair Castle dates back to the 13th century, and is the ancestral seat of the Dukes and Earls of Atholl. The building of Blair Castle commenced in the year 1269, under the instruction of John I Comyn, Lord of Badenoch, a northern acquaintance of the Earl of Atholl. The Earl was away, fighting in the Crusade’s, when John I Comyn began to build of his castle on his land. As soon as the Earl returned to Scotland he bitterly complained to Alexander III, the king of Scotland about the interloper, and his lands were returned. Rather than pulling down the tower than John I Comyn had built, the Earl decided to incorporate the tower into his own castle. A Great Hall and a series of vaulted chambers were incorporated into the castle over the centuries, by various Earls. It was the second Duke of Atholl who, in 1740, decided to redesign the castle as a Georgian Mansion.
Killiecrankie Visitor Centre
During the time of the Jacobites Killiecrankie, not too far from Pitlochry, found itself filled with the sounds of battle. The government soldiers were completely overwhelmed by the rebel soldiers of the Jacobites, under the command of Bonnie Dundee. During the bloodthirsty battle one of the soldiers evaded capture by jumping over the River Garry, hence the name, Soldier’s Leap. The area of the gorge and pass were a popular place of Queen Victoria.
To discover facts concerning the famous battle you should pay a visit to the Killiecrankie Visitor Centre. The Killiecrankie Visitor Centre has a selection of otherexhibitions and services, which include; guided walks, a natural history of the area and ranger service’s, amongst others.
If you are considering taking a vacation in Scotland based in Pitlochry then you can discover Pitlochry hotels online by using the search “Pitlochry hotel accommodation” in your favorite search engine.
Things You Need To Know about Spending Time In Inverness
Inverness, known as the capital of the Highlands, was ceremoniously granted city status in the year 2001 and at this time is the the only city to be found in the region. Strangely Inverness has no statutory boundaries which causes problems for folk estimating population. The calculations are made less accurate because the population of the city is increasing at a dramatic rate, Inverness has the highest growth rate in the UK. One thing we know for certain is that the population of Inverness is fairly happy, in 2008 the Telegraph ranked the city of Inverness fifth out of 189 cities in the UK for its quality of life. Therefore, I think we can safely say that Inverness is a beautiful place in which to spend time and this is most probably one of the factors which make Inverness immensely popular with tourists. Luckily there is plenty of bed & breakfast accommodations in Inverness with the majority of it being available to book online.
Inverness is also referred to as being the gateway to the Highlands for the clear fact that it is best placed to make the most of the Highland public transport system and a large number of tourist attractions are relatively easy to get to. Possibly the best way to get to them is by using an organized bus tour or day trip. A small number of coach companies visiting places such as, Culloden, Urquart Castle or Loch Ness or for the adventurous tourist it is possible to visit Orkney or John O’Groats on a day trip. You can also go on a small selection of city tours, such as the Terror Tour.
A small number of visitors choose to stay in two locations in the Highlands for example Inverness then Fort William. Fort William is incredibly popular with people who enjoy sports especially ramblers, hill walkers and rock climbers who take their chances climbing Ben Nevis which is only a short distance from the town. In a similar way to Inverness Fort William bed and breakfast and rather like other bed and breakfast in Scotland it is always inexpensive, very good value for money and very comfortable, tidy and clean with world famous hospitality.
One important fact you should remember is that the nearest airport to Inverness is, about, seven miles away at Dalcross. It is easy to catch a bus or hail a cab to the small and busy airport which is fairly cheap. If you need a map of Inverness then you will find them free at the tourist office, which is on Castle Wynd. While you are staying in Inverness you should make a point to visit the ‘stone of tubs’ and Mercat Cross, Inverness Museum and Art Gallery and Inverness Castle especially the Castle Garrison Encounter, an interactive experience which is great fun.
Have Foreign Hotels Been Caught up By the Economic Downturn?
We all know that the credit crunch is currently in full swing and although the travel industry was set to be hit, it was not meant to be hit this bad. Holiday accommodation abroad has been majorly slashed in an attempt to get British tourists revisiting foreign destinations. 2009 has seen a large increase in bargain family holidays, simply because a lot of people are fearing going abroad because of the falling power in the pound.
In my honest opinion this is what probably has led to the UK crash in the first place, British people have been going abroad for years and spending thir money in foreign economies leaving their own to struggle. Now overseas places are beginning to panic because they inflated prices ridiculous amounts because they knew they could get away with it and now they are rushing to lower them all because there is a huge shortage in tourist bookings.
We could in fact see hundreds of more holiday firms go bust as they fail to shift package holidays which has already seen a 11% reduction this year and is also putting fear into people travelling abroad amid fears that they could be stranded overseas.
Although peak travel costs have yet to be slashed a huge amount as travel operators are wishing things will pick up, I am sure they are going to fall very soon. What overseas places are trying to do is re launch theie economy, by offering near to nothing free accommodation they are hoping that people will spend their money in the cities in restaurants and such. But the entire globe is going to be stuck by the economic downturn and there is no escaping. In the end the countries that escape the creedit crisis will be the ones that take the lead and show other governments the way to do it.
Great bowls holidays and dancing holidays
Why staying in the UK could be the answer this summer
More and more British people are choosing to holiday in the UK rather than face the cost of travelling abroad. Last year’s figures showed that most travel agents found people less inclined to travel to the usual popular resorts in Europe but instead wanted to know about UK family holidays as a cheaper alternative.
With the current financial situation a lot of people are finding themselves short of money to spare for non-essential luxuries like holidays. Spain and Portugal are traditionally the most popular options for British holidaymakers, with almost guaranteed sunshine and relaxation combined with cheap shopping and nights out. But with the value of the pound becoming so weak compared to the euro, things are changing and in some European cities a pint can cost up to the equivalent of £8.
The changes in the global economy are causing people to look to the UK for their holiday destinations. And maybe that doesn’t have to be a bad thing. The UK has a lot to offer to families looking for a short break away, from self catering cottages to theme parks, health spas and seaside holiday resorts that are just as good as any in Europe.
The whole point of taking a holiday is to get away to somewhere different where you can be yourself. And whether you’re in to extreme sports, walking holidays or just relaxing by the side of a pool you can find all these things just as easily in the UK as you can abroad.
Many UK resorts offer a choice of hotels or self catering to save money, and a huge variety of activities whether you’re looking for kids amusements, entertainment, sports, golf or even specialist breaks like dancing or bowling holidays. The only possible downside is the infamous British weather, but most resorts have the choice of indoor or outdoor entertainment, so there’s really no reason to let it spoil your fun!
