Look After Your Mobile Phone with these Seven Simple Steps

Smashing A Mobile Phone

Around 88% of people these days don’t even step outside without having their mobile phones with them. Given that most of us rely on these ubiquitous devices every day losing one can be a disaster.

Increasinglly compact and lightweight mobile phones mean that they are easily lost, misplaced or fall out of pockets. In 2008 around 200,000 mobile phones went into washing machines, around 600,000 were dropped down the loo and 55,000 were left in the back of taxis.

There is also the growing and worrying risk of theft. In the UK alone more than 2 million mobile phones are stolen each year. This equates to around one every 12 seconds and this figure is on the increase.

Initially, when a phone is lost, there is the cost of buying a new one. But there may also be phone bills accrued by a thief between the time the phone was stolen and the time it was eventually disabled. Then there are the problems that will arise as a result of losing contact details and other valuable data stored on the mobile phone.

It has been found that fewer than 1 in 5 people who rely on their mobile phones go to the trouble of routinely backing up their phone data. Although most phones come with software that makes it easy to backup data from the phone to a computer few people take advantage of this.

So what can we each do to protect ourselves and our valuable data against loss or theft?

  1. The first thing to do is not to make it easy for a thief to steal your mobile phone. Never leave your mobile phone unattended in the car and always keep it secure in a closed handback or backpack.
  2. Make certain you record the IMEI (International Mobile Equipment Identity) number of your phone. This is a unique number applied to each and every mobile phone that can be used to disable the mobile phone in the event that it is lost or stolen.
  3. Most moble phones can be configured to only operate after a PIN has been entered. While it can be a nuisance to have to enter a PIN each time you want to use your phone this simple step will stop a thief from running up significant call charges on your account.
  4. Another simple step is to switch your phone to vibrate mode when in a busy public place in order to ensure that nobody else is alerted when your phone rings.
  5. You may like to engrave your name and maybe your car registration details onto your phone and its battery. Alternatively you might like to use a system for attaching unique serial number stickers to your phone (as provided by trackitback.com) to your mobile phone as this will help identify the phone if it is lost or stolen.
  6. It is worthwhile getting into the habit of backing up your SIM card data frequently. As a rule, if you are adding new contacts and appointments or notes to your phone every day you really should be backing up your phone data every day.
  7. Finally, make certain that you have some mobile phone insurance that provides the protection that you need. Remember that not all mobile phone insurance policies are the same so be certain to read the details and ensure that you get the cover that you want.

By following these steps hopefully you and your phone will not become part of future lost or stolen mobile phone statistics.

I Hit my Phone With A Chair

This is not something that I did on purpose for a web stunt although I wish I had done to get a bit of money from it.

Well I had dropped the iPhone onto the floor then was called upstairs for a meeting. Once the meeting had finished I had forgotten about dropping the phone so i got on my chair and slid across the room to my desk. I had thought I has run over something but wasnt sure if it was just the floor or not so I carried on. it really wasnt the floor.

Once I had realised that my phone was actually missing I found it and went on thinking that everything was fine, until i turned it over and stared at the damage I had done to it. Somehow the part of the phone where the charger goes in had cracked and left me with no way of being able to charge the phone. Another problem is that I had no way of getting a new one because I didn’t have iPhone insurance.

It would be very hard for me to actually get another phone as I have spend so much time getting used to the iPhone it seems to be the only phone for me now. I am going to have to go out and spend a lot of money to get another one. Perhaps because I am on contract they will give me a bit of a discount but I can’t see much sympathy coming from them when I haven’t for any insurance of any kind, even that gadget insurance would have sorted me out.

I am now going to go out and get PDA insurance as there is no way I am ever taking this kind of risk again. It is near impossible to actually go out and pay for the things I have recently broken.

No need to pay for injuries when on vacation

When thinking of going away the last thing that comes into your mind is what happens if something happens to any of us when we are out there having a holiday. However sometimes it does actually happen and the last thing you want to do is actually have to pay for medical attention so somebody will look at you and tell you what is wrong .

This is before you have even are told what is wrong and you are going to look at lot of money being passed on if you have something that needs some serious medical attention. In some places even a small brake could end up costing you a lot of money.

The best thing to do is to go and get travel insurance as this will protect you against nearly everything that could possible go wrong abroad including breaks and if the worst comes to it will provide family with a large sum of money if a death occurs on holiday.

Some of the other things covered are:

Cover for lost or stolen passports
A lot of cover for emergency medical things
Cancellation can be covered
Lost luggage can be covered
Any lost or taken money

Travel insurance could really benefit you if something goes wrong on holiday which is something that nobody expects but sadly does happen to a lot of people.

Of course if you are thinking of getting a car out there make sure you get out some car hire insurance to make sure that if something goes wrong there you have everything you need covered. As well as this if you are taking your own car and own a Sat Nav it is also possible to now get that insured with Sat Nav insurance so that even if that breaks on you it can be repaired with no extra cost at all to you.

Car insurance could help you

Car insurance is very important for several different reasons. The first of which is that your car is likely to be something you are either still paying for or have spent thousands on. The very last thing you want is someone to crash into the back of it or for it to unexpectedly to go wrong and having to pay out yet more money to fix it.

This is where car insurance comes in as it can provide a fallback option if something seriously goes wrong with the car, no one really needs it in life and with the times how they are at the moment there is no way that someone can afford to go out and pay the costs that everyone charges to have your car fixed.

So what exactly happens if you do have car insurance and something does go wrong with it? Well a lot of the time break down is not covered within the car insurance but it is possible to have it included which can become very useful if the parts that go with your car are very expensive which so happens to be most cars.
However if you do have insurance and you are sadly involved in a collision or even a bump that causes damage to your car then all you really have to pay for is the excess charge rather than the whole thing itself. Without insurance you are going to look at a nice bill for the entire cost of the damage to the car.

Of course if it is the car abroad you are trying to look after then car hire insurance may be a better idea for you. This will cover you from any accident you have when away. Then again if you are planning on staying at home this summer when maybe it is actually worth looking at the current home insurance policy you have, it may not cover everything you think it does.

Could life insurance help you?

Having life insurance may not seem important to you as an individual and in all honesty it really isnt.

However to your family it could become very important if something bad happens to you and you are say for example the main earner of the family. If this was to happen they would have very little if any money coming into them anymore meaning they would have to perhaps look for a smaller place to live and maybe even think about selling off some possessions to pay for all of the bills.

Of course this is not going to be the case for everyone but a large injection of money will certainly help. However life insurance can still become very important for your family as with just a little bit of money put away each month if something bad does happen to you at least you will know that your family will be provided with what perhaps could be a small fortune. There is also an option to take out a joint policy with your partner so your children can benefit from it.

Although a lot of companies couldn’t care less about you getting life insurance out there are some out there that do generally offer the service because they care about people and just want a time that is hard to be made a bit better.

Of course if you are not after life insurance it may be worth looking at that home insurance policy. A lot of these will not actually cover you from things like a burst pipe and pest invasion in which you will certainly need something that is known as home emergency insurance. This basically covers you against everything that home insurance will not cover you from. It really makes it a lot less hard on you if something happens that isnt even of your doing.

The new flood bill has a few missing things

The British government to soon release a new Flood and Water management bill which is set out to create an effective way to managing flooding and coastal erosion.
So far it is clear that the government are missing several things on this bill. Social housing, signposting and guidance as well as resilient repair have all been left out. This means that when somethign does happen thier insurance will only pay for the current problem and not to pay for things to prevent something else from happening.

Social housing is important as the government needs to include a requirement that local authorities provide low cost insurance solutions. This is important as people who are under rent schemes currently have no way of gaining contents insurance from any flooding at all.
Awareness as well as signposting is also important as houses that are prone to flooding currently have no way finding out how they can actually insure thier property. With this added into the bill it will be a lot easier for people to insure their property.

It has also been put forward that the government include guidance on flooding so that advice can be given on an emergency situation as well as providing a flood kit and advice on before, during as well as after the flood hits. In some cases a flood can be worse than natural disasters such as hurricanes and tornados so it is important that the government get this right so it will actually help.
Currently there is no way you can prepare a building to prevent it from any future flooding damage, with resilient repair this can be made possible using your insurance policies. This can be very important if you are in a flooding zone.

Having home insurance and something that is going to protect your I-pod like gadget insurance can help during flooding but unless the government do something about this then even the home emergency insurance might not be able to cover you during a bad flood.

Travel insurance is important on the slopes

Like many people, you may love winter sports so why not actually give it a go. Now obviously you cannot just jump straight in there without first having lessons as you are likely to cause yourself some harm. Gaining an injury can just as easily happen to someone who is experienced on the slopes. 1 out of every 100 skiers are likely to suffer an injury in a typical 5 day ski holiday (ouch). On the other hand if it is snowboarding you are into then the accidents are doubled with 1 in 50 gaining an injury.

It is not meant death by injury just perhaps a break or two or maybe even three. Even a broken arm or leg could cost you a lot of money if you do not have insurance. Although it is going to be a lot more expensive to ski in places like Europe this year as for Brits the Euro is at a all time low in the exchange rates the cost of travel insurance does not have to cost a lot. For just under twenty pounds you can get yourself covered against all types of injuries which of course could benefit you if you unfortunately turn out to be one of these people who injures themselves on the slopes.

Do not let the current economical climate get you down this winter, get to another one and tear up the slopes knowing that if something does go wrong you have some insurance to back you up if you get into trouble. I-pod insurance could also come in useful if you are looking to take it with you.

Of course if you are at home it is worth checking the home insurance to see if it covers you from everything. Sometimes only home emergency insurance will cover you from the less obvious things that are care potentially going to cost a lot of money to fix.

Car Insurance- Don’t let it ruin the holiday

If like many others you are intending to travel away this year then stop and think about how exactly you are going to get around. If you are staying in an hotel or villa that is central to everything then it is safe to say you are only likely to need a taxi to and from the airport cause you certainly will not be wanting to walk those cases with you after a long flight.

Of course for most people this really is not an option so you are likely to rent a car for the duration of your time away. However there is a major issue with this in 2009 and that is that British travellers could be hit with an excess fee as high as £1,600 when they are actually hiring their car.

It is known that most car rental prices do tend to include collision damage waiver which will cover you from accidental damage to the car as well as theft protection they do not often make it known that you will be liable for the excess in the same way you would be for your own car. Car rental companies will help you out on this but will charge you anything between £500 to £1600 just for this excess which is certainly enough to ruin the holiday for everyone if something bad does happen.

The excess is usually not explained to you until you actually collect your car which by this stage the car company will try to sell you their own form of insurance and this is certainly not cheap. This is going to cost you a lot extra and surprsingly will not often cover you for everything.

{Sometimes it is best to actually fix this insurance before you go and can actually work out from as little as £2.98 a day}. Gadget insurance can also be useful when going away as it will cover you from all those technological things you like to take with you.

Of course if you are not going away then why not check your home insurance policy. Does it cover you from things like pest invasion? If it isn’t then you are going to need something known as home emergency insurance.

A trip with the kids?

When you are travelling with children it is by no means easy. This is also true if not more so for someone who is taking children with them who are not thier own as it will add that extra bit of worry to you which you certainly do not need.
There are however just a few things to remember to do when taking a child away with you and this is very important advice indeed.

It is very important that you take with you a signed and attested consent letter from the parents for you to travel with the child, especially if the name of the child’s passport is different from yours. You are going to be asked for this in countries where overseas adoption and/or child trafficking is common. This is something you should not worry about it is there to stop crime.
Having the correct visas and vaccinations is another very important thing as you must make sure everyone going has these. The USA is important as they have very tight system in terms of who they let in and out. The vaccinations are for places like Egypt where you are a lot more likely to catch something as your immune system will not be used to the surroundings.

Do make sure that everything has been given to you about the child. For example medication for any medical conditions the child may suffer from. Although it seems very obvious it can easily be forgotten. Allergy UK actually produces cards in 27 other languages so if something does go wrong you can at least alert the medical crew of what exactly is the problem.

What if something really does happen to the child you are taking care of? Key to this is not panicing. If you panic you will only make things worse, just stay calm and assess the situation.

Make sure you take extra care if you are taking a child away with you this summer.

If you are going away make sure you have your I-pod covered with I-pod insurance or even if you are at home, home insurance as well as emergency home insurance can be very important as well.

Is your child going away without insurance?

Even with the times in the way they are at the moment people are still having the time and money to go away which of course is certainly not a bad thing. A recent poll has suggested that nearly one in three people going away actually take a child with them, whether that is a child of their own, a grandchild or a family friend at just over 31% it is safe to say the credit crunch is certainly not affect many people.

A very worrying problem is that just over 20% of these people did not have insurance for thier child. Even if you are the most responsible parent/guardian it is true to say that you cannot make sure your child does not hurt themselves at all in their life. Having insurance can come in very handy when visiting America. Having insurance in America enables you to be seen a long time before the people that do not have it. If you child breaks a bone or something like that the being seen first it going to be very beneficial. Sitting in a waiting room in pain is a lot worse for a child. What is surprising is that 15% of these people did not even know whether the child was even covered by an insurance policy at all.

Paying out for the child you are looking after can be very high, easily enough to ruin the holiday.

The best advice is to really check to see if the child you are taking away with you has insurance. Paying out the costs for a problem the child has abroad is going to cost you a lot more than travel insurance would have.

Of course if you have insurance already for your child then why not get gadget insurance for something so that it can be covered over the summer months. It is also important to have home insurance as well as home emergency insurance to make sure that everything that could possibly go wrong with the home is actually covered.
