A Tip For My Prescription Sunglasses

Sunglasses are very popular by variety of ages, even the best fashion brands have their own sunglasses colletions… Why prescription sunglasses?
Sunglasses work mainly as protective items and only secondly as decorations. There are however people who cannot buy a pair of sunglasses and enjoy them because they have special eye conditions. Hyperopia, myopia and astigmatism are just a few examples here. The solution for such cases is to be found in prescription sunglasses designed to match exactly the same features of the regular glasses but with ultraviolet protection. On the one hand the UVA rays get absorbed in the body through the eye lens, and on the other, the UVB rays cause skin burn.

Prescription sunglasses represent a combination of regular glasses with a dark lens design. Prescription sunglasses use different types of lenses, and here we can count polarized lenses, anti-reflective lenses, blue blockers, photochromic lenses and gradient lenses. It is important to mention here, before going on with the description of prescription sunglasses, that you can only order this kind of eyewear based on an ophthalmologist’s recommendation and after careful medical examination. Some health condition such as eye surgery may require total prevention of sun exposure. This is why most often doctors prescribe sunglasses with  99 or 100% protection against UVA and UVB.

Some prescription sunglasses rely on a wraparound design that prevents the UV rays from entering from the sides. The frame makes such protection possible, because a too thin or small frame design will be insufficient. As for the anti-reflective properties, all quality sunglasses should incorporated the polarized coating for a superior protection of the eyes. Mirror-coated lenses are sometimes used for the same purpose of reducing glare. The stage of the eye condition will also have an influence on the design of the prescription sunglasses.

It is sometimes difficult to create functional prescription sunglasses for advanced forms of myopia where the thickness of the lenses is very high. The presence of two or more health problems at the same time could also become an obstacle for the design of prescription sunglasses. The doctor should be able to recommend an adequate course of action, with the mention that the design of highly specialized prescription sunglasses is more difficult. Moreover, price awareness is another important element given the fact that prescription sunglasses will always be more expensive, as the number of specialists who can design them is smaller too.

Perfect Sight

It is said that spending time in front of the computer can be detrimental to your eyes, however, I used to spend almost 10 hours a day in front of it and have never had any problems. Some have started wearing glasses after only a couple of years of intensive computer use, but I’ve used it for over 10 years and my sight was perfect.

Being very proud of my eye sight, I used to test it on different things such as moving cars, or reading small text on different things, from as far away as possible. My friends, however, started telling me to take care, because at one point my vision would certainly be affected.

Since my parents were telling me the same things as my friends, I decided to take up jogging. I spent some time online looking for the perfect jogging equipment, a good mp3 player, and the best time of the day to start. Armed with this knowledge, my jogging began, every morning.

The equipment recommended online was great, and made jogging a pleasure. The Sansa c250 also helped keep my mind occupied, while running. Small and cheap, the player showed me that price doesn’t mean everything. It even sounded better than my PC, which really surprised me.

I don’t spend less time in front of the PC, but jogging has opened my eyes and I have started taking better care of my body. My physical condition is much better, and that is clearly visible, while my friends and family are very proud of my achievement. I personally like the idea that I can have better health while still enjoying doing what I love to do–computer work. There’s a fantastic feeling knowing that!

Ways To Measure Your PD When Buying Specs Over The Internet

Measuring your pupillary distance:

This measurement is the distance between the centre of your pupils that is measured in millimetres.

Opticians do not tend to give out this measurement as it encourages patients to buy their spectacles from them whereas you can buy cheap spectacles online or designer glasses at a fraction of the price online. It is commonly penned as 1 measurement like 60 (60mm) but could also be shown as R 29 L 31. When penned in this way it is the individual space from your right and left pupils to the midline of your nose.

When Varifocals, High Prescriptions or Prisms are ordered the measurement is commonly split individually. On the whole, if you have a single vision prescription, it will be written down as one value.

If you do not know this measurement and don’t want to measure it yourself then most online opticians will make your PD the national average (63) for men and (60) for women.

Ask a family member or friend to physically measure your PD:

This will be by far the simplest means by obtaining your PD. With your friend sitting opposite you at the same height ask them to place a ruler across your forehead just above your eyes with the millimetre side facing upwards.

Next ask your friend to close their right eye and you then look directly into their left eye. Request your colleague to slide the ruler to bring about the zero value is in the center of your right pupil and to keep the ruler very steady across your frontal bone. Then ask your friend to close their left eye and for you to look directly into their right eye.

Your friend will then read off the measurement to the centre of your left pupil. And that is it! It really is that easy! Please see the diagram below to help you further.

Using your current glasses to measure you PD with help from a friend:

You can put your spectacles on to judge for yourself how well they fit. Call For your colleague to stand opposite you and notice on your lenses the placement of your pupils with a non lasting marker.

There should be two lines visible in your line of sight, whilst you are viewing through your specs. Simply, take off your spectacles and measure the distance between the two markings. And that is it! If the measurement reads 6cm the PD distance will be 60. If the measurement is 6.3cm then your PD will be 63.

If you have a varifocal measurement, then just measure across from your right eye to the centre of your nose and then again from the centre of your nose to your left eye and record the individual readings for both your left and right eyes. If you’re not in the market for buying sunglasses with prescription lenses in then don’t worry about what’s in this article.
